Cracow Part 2 - Kazimierz and Podgórze

I spent a long time wandering across Cracow's districts of Kazimierz and Podgórze. They have an ambience that is close to me. At times they seem a bit run down and shabby, but they are filled with charming places, overwhelming history and a lovely sense of peace. Synagogues and churches mix with bars and graffitis. I was surprised how many travellers from all over the world come here to explore - but no wander, it is a great place to visit.

Dużo czasu spędziłam wędrując po krakowskim Kazimierzu oraz Podgórzu. Panuje tu atmosfera, która jest mi bliska. Dzielnice te chwilami mogą wydawać się trochę podupadłe i obdrapane, ale znależć w nich można czarujące miejsca, przepełnione historią i spokojem. Synagogi i kościoły graniczą z barami i graffiti. Byłam zaskoczona jak wielu podróżnych z całego świata przyjeżdża aby odkrywać te miejsca, ale nic dziwnego, zasługują one na wizytę.

Tutaj przypomniała mi się dzielnica Brick Lane! Przez chwilę poczułam się jakbym znów była w swojej ulubionej dzielnicy Londynu...

Galleries and vintage shops are a common sight.

Galerie i sklepy w stylu retro to powszechne zjawisko.

This square used to be the centre of the Jewish ghetto during the war. Now slightly oversized chairs are standing here, lonely and silent. To me they evoke a deep feeling of absence and loss noticeable among a bustling city.

W czasie wojny plac ten stanowił centrum getta żydowskiego. Teraz stoją tu krzesła, trochę za duże, samotne i ciche. Mi kojarzą się z nieobecnością i brakiem, odczuwalnymi wśród tętniącego życiem miasta.

I saw fragments of the ghetto walls still standing at Lwowska Street.

Na ulicy Lwowskiej zobaczyłam zachowane do dziś fragmenty murów getta.

Żółta budka telefoniczna i żółte kwiaty.
