Ireland Part 3: Galway

Galway is a charming town in the west of Ireland, in the province of Connacht. The beginnings of the city go as far back as to 1124.

Galway to czarujące miasto w zachodniej Irlandii, położone w prowincji Connacht. Jego początki sięgają aż do 1124 roku.

The old town is beautifully historical, with pebbled streets and stone buildings. It is also very colourful, with numerous quirky shops. cafes and graffitis.

Starówka jest piękna i zabytkowa, z brukowanymi uliczkami i kamiennymi budowlami. Jest też bardzo kolorowa, z licznymi ciekawymi sklepikami, kawiarniami i graffiti.

Pubs play an important role in the life and history of Ireland and it is also the case here in Galway. The interiors of some pubs resemble little palaces with gorgeous chandeliers, paintings and wooden ornaments.

Puby odgrywają ważną rolę w życiu i historii Irlandii i podobnie jest też w Galway. Wnętrza niektórych pubów wręcz przypominają pałace, z wspaniałymi żyrandolami, malowidłami oraz drewnianymi ornamentami.

The city is famous for its strong celtic traditions - especially in music and dance - and the Irish language is widely used here. There are many jewellery shops in Galway and one of the most popular items is the "Claddagh ring", which has been worn as a symbol of friendship or marriage since the 17th century. Nowadays it is often chosen as an engagement ring.

Miasto jest znane z silnych tradycji celtyckich - zwłaszcza w muzyce i tańcu - a język irlandzki jest tu powszechnie używany. W Galway mieści się wiele sklepów jubilerskich, a jednym z najpopularniejszych motywów jest "pierścień Claddagh", noszony jako symbol przyjaźni lub małżeństwa już od XVII wieku. Dziś często wybiera się go na pierścionek zaręczynowy.

Galway lies on the River Corrib, which flows to the Atlantic and is only six kilometers long.

Galway leży nad rzeką Corrib, która wpada do Atlantyku i ma jedynie sześć kilometrów długości.
