A Day Out in... Gdynia

After the historical Gdańsk and the romantic Sopot came the time to visit another part of the tri-city - Gdynia. Here are some of my impressions of this harbour city! 

Po historycznym Gdańsku i romantycznym Sopocie, przyszedł czas na kolejną część Trójmiasta - Gdynię. Oto moje impresje z tego portowego miasta!

Kościuszko Square was built on the Southern Pier and it features a monument to Maritime Poland, the ships 'Błyskawica' (Thunder) and 'Dar Pomorza' (The Gift of Pomerania), as well as a fountain.

Skwer Kościuszki zbudowany został na molo południowym i znajdują się tu pomnik Polski Morskiej, statki Błyskawica i Dar Pomorza oraz fontanna.

The meadow-like greenery is a pleasant counterbalance to the mostly concrete look of the Southern Pier.

Przypominająca łąki roślinność stanowi miłą przeciwwagę dla głównie asfaltowego otoczenia na molo południowym.

The frigate 'Dar Pomorza' is over 100 years old and it covered over half a million miles. It circled the entire globe several times!

Fregata 'Dar Pomorza' ma ponad 100 lat i przemierzyła ponad pół miliona mil morskich. Okrążyła cały glob kilka razy!

The heart of Gdynia is the lovely sandy city beach. The Gdynia Fish sculpture is where the 1.5 km seaside promenade begins.

Sercem Gdyni jest ładna, piaszczysta plaża miejska. Od rzeźby Gdyńskie Rybki rozpoczyna się 1,5 kilometrowa nadmorska promenada.

Świętojańska Street is Gdynia's true 'shopping paradise' and a beloved hang-out place for locals and tourists. It is 1866 metres long and scattered with boutiques, restaurants, pubs and cafes. All is beautifully decorated, often with flowers.

Ulica Świętojańska to prawdziwy 'raj zakupów' Gdyni oraz lubiane miejsce spotkań mieszkańców i turystów. Ulica ma 1866 metrów długości i znajdują się na niej liczne butiki, restauracje, puby i kawiarnie. Wszystko jest pięknie udekorowane, często kwiatami.

Some nice spots to have something sweet are cafes Buns (be prepared for a queue) and Gdyńska Rybka which sells fish-shaped cakes with all sorts of fillings.

Przyjemnymi miejscami na coś słodkiego są kawiarnie Buns (trzeba się przygotować na kolejkę) i Gdyńska Rybka, w której kupić można ciastka w kształcie rybek z najróżniejszymi nadzieniami.
