Stirling Castle

 One of Scotland's most iconic landmarks is the Stirling Castle - a strategic point connecting the Lowlands and Highlands. It is located on a volcanic rock, towering over the city of Stirling above the river Forth.

It is said that the castle's origins date back to the 12th century. The buildings preserved until now however, come from the 15th and 16th century.

In the castle we can admire the Great Hall, Royal Palace with its apartments as well as the Royal Chapel. My favourite place were the gardens with gorgeous roses in full bloom.

The castle was home to many famous historic characters like for example Mary Queen of Scots.

It is even told to have its own ghosts of which the most notable is the Green Lady.

Jednym z najbardziej ikonicznych zabytków Szkocji jest zamek w Stirling - strategiczny punkt łączący Lowlands i Highlands. Znajduje się on na wulkanicznej skale dominującej nad miastem, nad rzeką Forth.

Podobno początki zamku sięgają XII wieku, ale budynki zachowane do naszych czasów pochodzą z wieku XV i XVI.

W zamku możemy podziwiać Wielki Hol, Pałac Królewski z apartamentami oraz Kaplicę Królewską. Moim ulubionym miejscem były ogrody z wspaniałymi różami w rozkwicie.

Zamek był domem wielu sławnych postaci historycznych, takich jak na przykład Maria Królowa Szkocji.

Mówi się nawet, że ma swoje własne duchy, z których najbardziej znanym jest Zielona Dama.

Apartments in the Royal Palace and the 'Stirling heads' on the ceiling depicting various kings, queens and nobles.

The unicorn is Scotland's national animal.

From the castle you can see the William Wallace Monument, commemorating one of Scotland's greatest national heroes.

Z zamku widać pomnik upamiętniający Williama Wallace - jednego z największych bohaterów narodowych Szkocji.
